"Required managed update notification"

Thanks for this. I tried this and YES, it works! I think it's the answer to this annoying problem .... This is the procedure I followed ...

1. Save a backup copy of /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist on the Desktop or somewhere else in case you need to reinstate it (I didn't need it, but a good precaution)
2. Delete /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist
3. Reboot computer
4. Go to System Settings/General/Software Update and select your preferred method for regular updates

Now, the annoying message which was coming every day is no longer there and everything seems fine. I did this a few days ago and have used the computer a lot since and there don't seem to be any problems and the message no longer appears.

Old issue, new issue, what changed?

Is this a personal machine, bought new or used?

Is this Mac managed by your work/job...?

If the device is bound to Enterprise, JAMF, MDM, active directory list (?) then contact your IT for support

I only had one extension installed, "Capital One Shopping" (a super essential one for sure, NOT!) I deleted it. We'll see what happens.

I'm getting this as well. On a personal device which has never been managed by any external party. It pops up every day. I've checked profiles and there's nothing there and there are never any updates to install. It only started occurring since latest Ventura update.

It looks like it is related to a relatively new developer feature that allows developers to keep showing the pop up window if a users fails to update a particular app. I think a bug must have been introduced recently, as the pop up is appearing despite all apps and the OS being up to date.

I don’t know how to tell which app is presenting the message or whether it is the OS.

In Safari's settings, either under Extensions or Websites, there's a window that shows what notifications you have on. I can't remember which one it was -- and because I've deleted them all, the window doesn't show up for me now -- but it's one of those two, and I think it was Extensions.

I didn't have many set, and I don't use Safari, so I just deleted all of mine. Also, I don't remember if there was an option to keep them and just turn them off. I deleted them entirely.

I also went into Notifications under System Settings and turned off one random notification there, and I suppose it's possible that was the source, but I suspect it was coming from Safari.

So, unfortunately, I jumped the gun: the notices are back.

I've been in touch with support again and have updated to Ventura 13.4.1 (c), which *may* address the issue -- and if it doesn't I'm going to put my computer in safe mode over the weekend and see if it shows up then/if that provides any clues.

Will update -- if I'm certain the source of the problem's really been identified and/or it's solved!

¿Has anyone from Apple weighed in on this, other than to make suggestions which don't seem to work.

¿Any particular geographical area that these “Required managed update” messages are hitting … I'm in Northern California.

I get the notification and have no extensions, and have all of the website notifications deleted for months. All applications up to date, and all OS updates applied. And has NEVER been a managed device - personally owned, never part of an organization. Only affects one of the Macs in my house (there are 4 being actively used.)

That's weird that only one out of four of yours has it -- I now have had 13.4.1 (c) installed for two days, have cleared all notifications and extensions from Safari, and I am still getting it.

At this point, I am assuming that it's a harmless glitch that apple knows about, and it will be fixed eventually -- and until that happens, I'll live with it, because my computer is otherwise functioning normally.

After saying I was going to let this go, I decided to do one more search beyond apple's forums, and I found this discussion about this issue https://community.jamf.com/t5/jamf-pro/required-managed-update-daily-notification/td-p/276476 with a very simple suggestion to delete one line item in the Library.

I've found that item in my Library, and it shows that it was active today -- however, I am *not* particularly tech savvy, and I'm reluctant to get to work deleting things on my computer that I read about online without someone else confirming that it's fine to do so. 😂

Anyone following this thread who wants to weigh in, and if it seems legit, give it a go and report back??

Confirming: I did this three days ago, right after you posted, and after six+ weeks of popping up daily, the message has stopped appearing. Whew. Minor issue, big annoyance solved -- thanks again for the assist.

For reference, I had Ventura 13.5 installed before I did it, and I have my updates set to automatic now.

Getting the same message also – has anyone figured out what's happening?
