Problems with installing new ID on my MacBook Air

I wanted to change my Apple ID. I could do it in seconds on my iPhone and on my MacBookPro. I can't login on my MacBookAir. I called in Apple Care three times already, they apparently do not know neither what is happening. Do you have any idea?

Sign out of the AppleID in the iCloud settings. Sign out of the AppleID in any other System Settings.

Then try to sign in the new ID in each of the settings. If there are any iCloud backup settings in Security and Privacy, you'll have to log out from that as well.

Note, once you log out an AppleID, any purchases including music from the Apple iTunes Store will no longer be accessible on your Mac until you next log back in that ID.

You may find it easier to create a new admin account on your Mac to manage a different Apple ID using the Users & Group Settings.

So, it seems that you can log into your Mac but not log into your AppleID.

Try this, when running, open Settings->Users&Groups. Create a new user as an administrator. Then restart. When the log in screen appears, select that new user and log into it. Next, open Settings->AppleID and try to log in.

I ran into an issue once where I changed an AppleID and had a similar issue. Creating a new administrator user and logging into that new user worked so there must have been something corrupted deep and hidden in the old user creating the issue.

Give it a try.

When you went to factory settings, did you erase the hard drive? if you did, and on software install was the T2 chip login set?

Mac models with the Apple T2 Security Chip - Apple Support

If the login was set there, it is that login they need to change at the firmware level.

If the login was set as part of a school or corporate configuration, the school or corporate configuration team needs to assign a different ID to your serial number.

If the T2 chip was not set, and the initial login to iCloud after erasing the system doesn't let you login to a different ID, Apple needs to clear the rergistration from the AppleID server with its serial number.

You may have to at that point call AppleCare.

Entirely possible.

I'm a firm believer of keep it simple s....

One AppleID, one machine. You can of course set your your login for your computer to be totally different than your AppleID, by simply hitting command-Q when it asks your AppleID iCloud info on initital setup. Then enter in the system settings the AppleID after activating your local login.

I do this all the time, and can choose a different AppleID as needed.

I am in contact with Apple Support, but not solved yet. We discovered that the second (false) login that appears and ask for password, doesn't appear when I reset my computer without het content of my Time Machine. The macbook can easily login with login and password, which is installed and used as well on my other devices.

Once I set back content of TimeMachine, the same problem occurs.

I think we have to find out in which part the problem occurs. Applications - my name with all content - Other files & options? It is definitely not in 'system and network' as we didn't copy that part to the computer. We tried as well a manual setting back of the content, but the Apple Advisor came accross problems, although we tried for more then 4 hours yesterday. Still not clear.

Thank you very much for your quick reply. I am afraid with the help of Apple Care (Apple Support) I did that several times and it works on my two other devices. On my macbookAir I can't sign in. We tried to reset the password several times.

Everytime I give my ID and password - which is correct, while on my iPhone, MacBook and as well on this site, it is recognized - my MacBook Air is not recognizing it and asks ID + password again.

Apple support asked to leave the MacBook Air for one day and night and try again, but unfortunately it didn't help.

I have set my computer again to factory settings, as I thought maybe on that level something is blocking; but after trying again. It is not yet working. So any other idea is welcome?

I think I am closer to the problem, by testing the following: I just renewed factory settings again. The MacBook Air asks my Apple ID, password and I can fill in the security numbers which appear on my iPhone. So far so good.

Then occurs something bizar, this happened two days ago as well, when I renewed my factory settings.

A second ID, for which is asked a password, appears. I recognize this mailadres as by trying to solve the problem, we tried a few days ago to make a new ID with this mail-address, but then we changed it again to the current ID (mail address). Even on the site appleid.apple.com I can only see my current ID.

How can I cancel this apparently second ID, asking for a password? Would this be the cause of the problem, not being able to login with my current ID??
