My replacement iPhone had display and brightness turned all the way up when I received it. Screen difficult to see at times and I can’t turn brightness up

My replacement iPhone had the display and brightness turned all the way up when I received it. At times it is difficult to see the screen and I can’t turn it up anymore than it is because it was already all the way up when I received the phone. I can do about this? Did I receive a phone that is not up to par?

iPhone 13 Pro, iOS 16

Directly from Apple. I chatted with support but the person who I chatted with could not fix it, and assured me that the phone had been thoroughly inspected before I received it. If this was true, I would not have had the issue, because it was simply a matter of toggling “automatic” to “on”, which I found out when I further researched it. This worked and my phone display was brighter or darker depending on lighting
