Focus mode for one contact with "This user has notifications silenced" message and still receive all other messages?

Is it possible for a Focus mode to silence and display the "Jane Doe has notifications silenced" for one contact only?

I want my boss to know when I'm not available, but I want everyone else to be able to reach me as normal. Right now, I have her as the only contact silenced, but she doesn't see the Focus state message. It seems that I have to silence iMessage in order for her to see that I have a Focus mode on, but then I miss potentially important messages. I would be so grateful for any guidance or solutions. Thank you.

Hello macgirl,

We have a great support article that might help with this. Please take a look at it here: Allow or silence notifications for a Focus on iPhone - Apple Support. Follow this guidance:

"Allow or silence notifications from specific people during a Focus

      1. Go to Settings  > Focus, then choose a Focus—for example, Do Not Disturb, Personal, Sleep, or Work.
      2. Tap People (or tap Choose People), then do one of the following:
      • Allow specific people: Tap Allow Notifications From, tap the Add People button, then select from your contacts.
      • You can also turn on options to allow calls from certain groups of people and allow repeated calls (two or more calls from the same person within 3 minutes).
      • Silence specific people: Tap Silence Notifications From, tap the Add People button, then select from your contacts.
      • You can also turn on Allow Calls From Silenced People.

Note: Regardless of your Focus settings, you can allow calls from your emergency contacts to come through. See Allow calls from emergency contacts when notifications are silenced, below."

We hope this helps. Let us know if we can assist with anything else at all. Take care.

Thank you Gena.

I have read that article several times, but it does not address if these contacts will be notified of the Focus mode if iMessage is not silenced as well. I have tested this out many times. The Focus mode is only shared in iMessage if you add iMessage in "Silence notifications" (thus preventing iMessage notifications). When you only silence a contact and not iMessage, the Focus mode is not shared.

I cannot share the screen recordings, but here are screenshots of the setting and corresponding iMessage displays.

Thank you in advance!
