I have air drop on and I am able to see the device to send it to (iPhone 13 to new MacBook 16) but Mac book is not receiving any suggestions. All devices owned by myself and logged in with the same apple id

Apple support has some articles online that may be helpful:

Transfer files wirelessly between your iPhone and computer with email, messages, or AirDrop - Apple Support

says of AirDrop:

"After an item is sent to your Mac, you can find it in the app you saved the item to or in the Downloads folder".

Use AirDrop on your Mac - Apple Support

says:

"Make sure that both devices are within 30 feet (9 meters) of each other

and have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth turned on".

If you scroll down in the above article:

says what to do on Mac: "If you can't see the other device in AirDrop"

You could also check a setting on mac:

Apple menu > System Settings, click General in the sidebar, then click AirDrop & Handoff on the right.

(You may need to scroll down.) Then AirDrop: Choose who can send files to you from nearby Apple devices.

Eg: If the iPhone is not listed on your Contacts card on Mac, the setting may not allow AirDrop from it.

You could add the phone number in Contacts ... or use the "allow from everyone" setting above.

All the best :-)
