Transferred to iPhone 14 - not letting me add cards to wallet

I’ve just changed my phone to the iPhone 14. When trying to add my debit/credit card to the wallet it says “unable to add card”. Even when it says “Use one of the previous cards?” And I tried ALL the cards I had saved from my iPhone 11 pro, and it still says “unable to add card.” I can add them to my old tablet, but not the new 14 phone.


I previously used the same card with my previous phone and watch for Apple Pay with no issues. Apple said to contact my bank, contacted my bank, they said to contact Apple. The phone is up to date with the latest software and has a strong wifi connection.


Ive tried adding the card several times, signed out of my Apple ID and then back in again, restarted iPhone to no avail. Has anyone else had the same problem? I’ve seen loads of others with this same problem dating back last year, but no solution.


The wallet shows it transferred other cards (rewards cards) just fine. But even tho I’ve opted the “double click side button” that’s not working either.

Last question and I’ll explain what is going on. When you add the card data (by whatever methods) Apple Pay has to verify that the card belongs to you. In order to do this Apple Watch (in very simplistic terms) contacts the bank. You’ll be asked enter a verification number. The verification number comes to you via TXT/message, email or voice.


Are you receiving any of the verification messages from the bank?

Have you done a forced restart of your iPhone? Not just turning it of and back on. But a forced restart.


Basically hold both the Digital Crown and side button in (at the same time) and do not release until the white Apple logo appears. The screen will go black and after maybe 30 seconds the while logo appears. You have to hold both buttons in until the logo appears then you let go. IPhone will restart and try again. If the don’ t get a verification notice/option, it’s on the banks end. Apple Watch is transmitting, but not getting a response from the bank.

No. It was glitching under “payments and shipping” as well, and it allowed me to remove and re add in that location (which did have my bank verify). But trying to add to Apple Pay \ wallet I’m not getting any of those notifications. And oddly oddly, the card still shows under my “wallet” on my watch, but don’t know if it’ll work like that cuz it’s not on phone??

Yes, and could be the solution. However, it’s a fair to start questioning the bank and asking why they are not responding with a verification. I’m sure the first tier support will have to raise the issue to engineering and it could be days before they want to pull the records.


Deleting the Wallet is nearly the nuclear option. Some data from loyalty cards may be saved, but usually any airline passes, concert/movie tickets etc. have to be added again. No guarantees it’ll work. That’s why I’m suggesting calling the bank and hopefully they’re on top of this issue.


Do you have any other credit cards or debit cards in your Wallet? If so, you could try removing that card and then re-adding the card. If it works, again, probably the bank. If you can’t add the card, could be hardware issue or OS issue.

I suspect the issue is with the bank. Do you have the card on any other devices, iPad, Apple Watch or Mac? AS a last resort, remove from all other devices and then try adding to the new iPhone. If you still don’t get a verification request, it’s likely the bank.


Another option for further verification is delete the Wallet app, do a forced restart, and download the Wallet app again.
