Fonts not installed

I am trying to install fonts into Font Book with an .OTF file type (I also tried .TTF) and got an error message: Fonts not installed. Could not install fonts. This may occur because of efforts to install fonts in files containing no valid fonts. Check your selection and try again.

A friend just successfully installed these fonts on their Mac so not sure why it's not working for me.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for your help...I went to Go>Home>Library but I don't see a folder named Fonts.

Try again. When you hold down the option key and do Finder > Go you should see a list with Library on it, probably between Home and Computer. That is where you should see a Fonts folder. I've never seen it missing.

You can also drag font files into Library/Fonts, it should work equally well. (You cannot drag fonts into System/Library/Fonts).
