FSCK on boot

With High Sierra, and as far back as I can remember with OS X you could boot at localhost:/ Root# and type FSCK -YF and it would do a HDD health check and even make repairs. I upgraded to 12.x.x Now it doesn't do it in OS 12.6.7

Is there a new command that works (other than booting into Disk Utility)?

Apple was going to remove Single User Mode from Macs...not sure when or if they did so with the Intel Macs. Apple modified their Single User Mode article to refer to Recovery Mode at that time as well so no longer references it in the traditional sense.

If Single User Mode (Command + S) does not do it for you, then you will need to boot into Recovery Mode as @John Galt mentions, although you will need to make sure you run the command for the proper volume since the root volume in Recovery Mode is a virtual volume and is not the root of the internal drive.
