"Unable to verify the printer on your network".

I have an iMac 2017 running Mojave 10.14.6 and am unable to get a reliable network connection to my Epson ET-7700 in Bonjour Multifunction mode. Sometimes I can print, most times I can't. Restarting doesn't seem to help, and currently I am not even able to add the printer in the Printers & Scanners preferences pane. The full error message is "Unable to connect to 'EPSON ET-7700 Series_ipps_tcp.local' due to an error."

My first suspicion was that wifi signal strength was the issue as I recently moved into a new house. In my previous house, the printer gave me essentially trouble free service for more than two years. Both the printer and the iMac were located in a room on the second floor, while the router was on the first.

What convinces me that this is NOT a wifi issue is that my MacBook Pro - running the identical operating system and sitting within a few feet of both the iMac and the printer- has no issues whatsoever communicating with the printer. I just added the printer again on the MacBook Pro and the whole process took less than 10 seconds, if that. This while the iMac seems utterly incapable of establishing any communication with the printer.

I should mention that I can add the printer in IP mode. But here too, I get communication errors when I actually try to print something - even the test page.

BTW, restarting has no effect.

So something seems to be busted/corrupted in the iMac's system. Any suggestions what it might be would be appreciated.

Thanks.
