FCP beachballs on 'loading plugins'

Hi All,

The issue is in the attached screen shot. FCP won't load and it's stuck here.

What I have done:

  1. Currently, I am in the process of copying the library that I was working on to an external HD
  2. Previously, I did download a new plugin package I purchased last night from Pixel Film Studios that didn't seem to install properly. I didn't have any loading issues last night with this but decided to uninstall and delete it anyhow (didn't work).
  3. Restarted the computer 4x's

ran a EtreCheck Report which is attached in the additional notes.

Now what? TYIA for any help. - Chris

In addition to the problem with low free space (note that "free" and "available" are not the same thing; macOS alas holds on to that extra space when it really shouldn't):

you have the nasty "cleanmymac". Completely uninstall this ****.

you chrome and its evil keystone daemons - they hog the system videotoolbox and serious damage the working of video applications. See https://chromeisbad.com for an explanation.

you have the WD disk software. Third party manufacturers' drive software are not needed and can often lead to decreased performance.

Thank you Luis!! I got it to work by basically shutting down all apps, exporting the library to an ext HD, deleting the library on the Mac, then replacing the library back, then I restarted my machine.

This worked.

I see often in here that cleanmymac isn't good but for non-tech guys like me, it really helps me clean up my machine. Is there a better program out there that has similar functions that you'd recommened?

Also, with chrome, my work team runs exclusively on Google systems. Ie calendar, google meet, google chat, drive, etc. Chrome seems to work the best with their Google sister systems.

In my case, do you feel that I can be doing something better...different? TYIA!! - Chris

One problem with any "cleaners" is that they tend to mess with stuff that should be left alone.

In earlier versions of the OS there was even a risk of rendering your mac unbootable. This has been mitigated by the fact that since Big Sur, the OS itself is mounted in a sealed read-only volume; but user data can still be mangled by these programs.

Leaving a few plist files behind is not a big deal. Any program worth its salt that installs some additional files (other than plist and caches) ought to offer its own uninstaller; other than that, any leftovers are negligible.

So my answer to what to use instead of cmm is nothing.

As to Chrome, try Tom's suggestion of Brave; or Edge; or, at the very least, remove the keystone things, as Chrome does not actually need them (I am not sure, though, if they will get reinstalled, given the evil nature of the beast).
