Guest Order not connecting to apple id.

I had ordered a macbook from the education store and forgot to log in to my apple id at checkout. When I realized I tried to add to my apple id through the email I received of confirmation. But when i went ti add it said confirm phone number. But it kept saying please use numbers even though i used number and i cant add it. Please help.
