I take pix with iPhone which are synced to my iCloud. I see them on my Mac in the Photos app on the Mac in library .
I take pictures with my camera and upload to my cloud too from the Mac.
then I see them in my iPhone. Will I see duplicates because at the end of the day all pix are on all my devices.

iCloud Photos is checking for duplicates when you are uploading images and videos from different devices.
As long as you are not mixing the manual download from your iPhone with the iCloud syncing, there should not be any duplicates created. You may get duplicates, if you are using an automatic conversion of HEIF to More Compatible, while downloading fron the iPhone and then import the converted images to your iCloud Photos Library. Or if you are downloading photos from Shared albums, that are already in your Photos Library.
