Apple Music: Video playback issue

I have seen others with a similar problem but no fix: when playing a video in the Music app on Apple TV, one second of it appears, the screen goes black, and the video resumes starting 3 or 4 seconds in. Ugh.

wanderindiana,

Make sure that the software on your Apple TV is updated to the latest version. Outdated software can cause things to not work as expected:

  1. "Go to Settings > System > Software Updates and select Update Software.
  2. If there's an update, select Download and Install.
  3. Wait for your Apple TV to download the update. Keep your Apple TV connected and plugged in to power until the update is complete."

- Update your Apple TV

If it continues after updating, we suggest contacting Apple Support to look into this further:

Cheers!

My problem turns out to be a software issue to be resolved with the next TVOS update.

Mine is a video problem applying to Apple TV 4K models, under Settings > Video and Audio > Match Content.

There are two options with this setting, Match Dynamic Range and Match Frame Rate. The problem exists with these to settings switched to On. The problem is resolved by switching these two settings to Off.

As far as I know, this problem/solution only applies to Apple TV 4K (1st Generation) models running tvOS 16.5 (20L563). I also own an Apple TV HD model that plays music videos correctly with Match Content settings set to On — that is how I isolated the source of the problem.

Thanks for responding!

Apple Music subscriber, yes.

Happens to ALL music videos in the Music app.

I did resets, no change. Using an Ethernet connection, AT&T Internet 1000. Starting to think the AT&T software/Smart Home Manager/Active Armor is causing the problem but there’s no break/delay with other videos/other video apps.

Frustrating.

I appreciate the advice. Thank you for trying!

I have a case open with Apple Support and a call scheduled to help diagnose the problem.

I can report that the music video playback problem is confined to the Apple TV 4K model. I have an iPhone 13 Pro and an Apple TV HD 32GB that have no errors playing music videos through their respective Music apps. My current suspicion is the blackout is related to HDR/display settings. When there is a fix, I will post the complete diagnostic steps.
