Purchase Year vs Model Year

I bought a new MacBook Pro directly with Apple in 2015, exactly a a MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012). Is it normal, that even if I bought directly on the online Apple Store in 2015 I received a Mid-2012 laptop? I checked my invoice and that detail is not included.

Thanks!

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.15

Yes, that is normal. There was a 13” 2012 MacBook Pro that was marketed until 2016, but it was always referred to as a 2012 model.
