O2 Apple Watch Data Plan Problems

PSA - Please check your mobile data is actually working and the

watch is not just paired to your phone before you need to rely on it in an

emergency.

It would appear that O2 are having major problems with Apple

watch data plans, with one estimate from a long term O2 Community Member

estimating that over 20% of the posts to the forum are Apple Watch data related

and the issue has been going on for months. Considering Apple Watch data plans

must be a tiny fraction of the overall O2 business, the error rate seems to be

extremely high.

Some people have had the watch for months and are only just

realising that the data plan isn’t working, (possibly due to always having

their phone on / nearby and the watch being paired).  This unfortunately

raises the alarming potential that somebody is going to try to make an

emergency call and it’s going to fail.  Not due to an unforeseen or

unavoidable glitch, but due to what appears to be a long known and systemic

issue within O2.

O2 continue to sell the plans, (and watches), perform credit

checks and issue contracts for product that in many cases, they are unable to

determine if / when will work.  None of this is mentioned at point of sale

nor subsequent customer service calls. Sadly I've had to return mine, but there are many others who don't currently have that option.
