You would need to have an iPhone and set up forwarding to your Mac to be able to receive/send SMS messages that are required for an Android phone.

Macs have no cellular capability. Android users can only receive cellular text messages, not ones that go via Apple's Internet system.

That is odd, since it appears you are able to receive the messages, but not able to reply or send using SMS. You can review the setting on forwarding, but them seem to be set correctly is they are received. If you have not done it already, the standard restart and sign out/in iMessage on both devices does resolve some of the networking quirks.

I have an iPhone and had been able to reply or send to friends with Android and then that ability stopped. Dunno why??
