HomePod mini stuck in ''configuring''

I purchased a HomePod mini to use as a HomeKit hub. Went through the setup procedure and it failed to update because I had ''advanced data protection'' turned on. Turned it off and the HomePod updated from software version 15.6 to 16.5, however it's still stuck in configuring. Reset the device multiple times and it's the same thing everytime. In the home app, it says ''HomePod is being configured. Additional settings will be available shortly...''. Also alarms and timers are greyed out and it says that they can be viewed and managed only when this homepod is on the same network as this iPhone. I restarted my phone and router to no avail. Logged in to my router and I can see that the HomePod is indeed connected but it doesn't show it is in the home app (I can't see the wifi strength bars).

In this current state I can use it as a speaker and I know for a fact that it is connected to my wifi network as I see it as an audio output option on my MacBook Pro and it disappears if I turn off wifi. I asked Siri random facts and it did read the information from a wikipedia page. When I ask Siri to set an alarm or timer it says that something went wrong with my request and to try again later. I haven't tried controlling any HomeKit accessories yet because they haven't been delivered yet.

Help please!!!

This is patently ridiculous. The whole “it just works” mantra is what draws consumers to Apple in the first place. I won’t spend any more time than I already have trying to get a brand new HomePod Mini to correctly connect. We got two for Christmas. One connected flawlessly, and the other has cost me a half-day of my holiday vacation.

I’ll be voting with my wallet and returning it.

No one should have to be this knowledgeable about networks to get this thing to connect.

I own 4 HomePod Mini's - The 2 that was set up a month ago are fine, up to date, and have no issues. One I had at work, I took home so I could set up as a stereo pair. The one that was there already is fine. The one that I reset to the network most recently has been stuck in configuring for nearly a week. It connects to the Apple TV and phones but added settings like stereo pairing and network connectivity are not available. I went yesterday and purchased a new HomePod mini for my office and that one also is stuck in configuring I can connect it to my phone and it plays music from my cloud library even though it thinks it's not connected to the internet.

SUPER BUGGY!

This seems like an Apple problem, not a setup problem. Since the entire setup process is more or less automated for you, I cannot point to an issue with my phone or network since both home and office networks have had properly configured HomePods on them.

I had the same problem with you and it last for two days. I tried all the methods people mentioned above and none of them worked for me, and I finally find another way that works for me: I removed all of my devices in home app and deleted home app. After that I reinstalled home again and reset both of my homepod mini, they successfullly configured in a short time.

Update 2 - I was about to remove my apple tv and both homepods from the home app. I had to reset the homepods but the apple TV did not require a reset, I only had to log out of my apple account then reconnect.

I was able to add a new home location and reconnect my accessories with no issues and now have everything working properly. speakers are set up as a stereo pair. Thanks for the help figuring this out.

I am on IOS 17.1.1. I bought a HomePod today. I experienced the issue as well. It stuck at the "setting up" for 10 minutes. I followed the reset instructions (unplug, wait 10s, plug, wait 10s, hold until 3 beeps) shared by the community; then it finished the configuration right away. :) Hope my experience may help other who are also experiment this issue.

I had the same issue of the Apple HomePod being stuck on ''HomePod is being configured. Additional settings will be available shortly...'' for about an hour and a half. It almost looked like it was supposed to be updating to version 17.1.1. What fixed this for me was going back to the main screen of Home and adding a matter device. Once I added the device I was prompted to finish configuring the HomePod. The “configuring” has went away now and everything appears to be working as it should. Might have been a fluke thing for me but if you have a matter device that you need to setup, might be worth a try.

Interesting, my region is Serbia as well. I can confirm that for me this now FINALLY fixed, but I had to reset Homepod Mini 2 manually and add it again to Home app.

I experienced this issue since August, trust me I probably tried resetting Homepod hundred times :-(

I did contact Apple support before. I'm not sure if they fixed this in the recent updates, or they just fixed the issue directly, but it now works for me.

I experiencing the same issue with a HomePod mini running 17.2. It was initially setup using different Apple ID, and worked fine on 2 different networks. No errors and the timers worked.

I needed to move it to my main AppleID and it’s been a mess since I did that 2 weeks ago. Get the error listed here and I can’t get it to do timers.

last night I had a little breakthrough that may help others.

I have 2 networks. One of which has the 2.4GHz option enabled.

I reset and set it up using that 2.4GHz network as suggested by someone in this discussion.

it worked as expected again, no errors, fully operational and timers worked.

so then I moved it to the main network (which has 2.4 and 5GHz combined).

And the problems returned. I can’t set timers again.

I’ll see tonight if I can get around this issue.

so if you can set it up using a 2.4GHz wifi network it might work for you and avoid changing countries etc.

(normally if you change the network on the device you are connecting the HomePod to, it will ask you if you want to change the network the HomePod is on to that network. In my case that isn’t happening now that I have moved the HomePod mini to the combined network, I can’t move it back. I assume if I reset it and just add it to the 2.4GHz network it will work - to be tested!).
