Are you looking for a shortcut to closing tabs within Safari or other applicable apps on the Mac? If so, you may press Command and W together to close the foremost tab. Note that if there is only one tab/screen open for the selected app, it will close the app itself.
You may also hove the cursor over a tab and this will reveal an 'X' button to close it as well.
