AppleTV remote
My AppleTV 4K ( early model) remote is set up to also control sound on my Yamaha amp. I’d like it to also turn on my Yamaha amp, is this possible?

Maybe, possibly through HDMI-CEC. Not directly from the remote alone.
When waking the Apple TV box, it can send a CEC signal to other HDMI devices, if those others will listen to it and react to it in a desirable manner (also turn on and switch inputs for the new detected device). When setting the Apple TV box to sleep, it can send a CEC signal to other HDMI devices, if those others will listen to it and react to it in a desirable manner (also go to sleep mode).
Not all CEC support is comparable, and none of the CEC functions are mandatory. It depends on how the manufacturer implemented it for any given model. YMMV.
