Instead of Finder/Go/Applications, how to open the list of applications by shortcut

As dialabrain said: for some reason (uninteligible to me and, I guess, a lot of others) Apple has decided, a few versions ago, that all shortcuts appear like this (dimmed).

The takeaway is that, as long as the text in the menu is bright, the menu is active, and so it the shortcut.

Just try it. Press Command-Shift-A (or any other, for that matter; I am sure you know Command-C for Copy, for example; and yet, even if you have something selected, you can see it is dimmed as well - but works!)

You have to be in the Finder for command shift A to work.

couldn't you set finder to open with "applications"?

you can use Apple Menu > Finder > Settings.

then in the "general" tab, set "New Finder windows show:" to "applications".

then whenever you open finder, you will be presented with your applications folder.

I take it you never tried using the shortcuts. They are grey because of a cosmetic decision.

Just to add, the shortcut opens a Finder window into the Applications folder. If you mean something else, please explain.
