JBL 5 Bluetooth speaker not working with iMac

iMac Retina 5K, 2020

Running Ventura 13.4.1 (c)

The iMac says that the JBL is connected but the music is still playing through the computer. The JBL has been disconnected from my iPhone 14 which it works well on, but I need to use the phone to take video so need a different way to play music.

I have tried resetting JBL (power off then Power and + together) a couple of times but it's still not working.

If someone can help me trouble shoot that'd be awesome as I'll be needing to connect frequently for work. Thanks!

PS: for some reason, this post is tagged with my older computer's info. I'm needing help with this newer one please.

It can be connected yet not selected as the iMac's audio output device.

Read Change the sound output settings on Mac - Apple Support. Step 2.

That's a problem. A preliminary search yielded the following: JBL Xtreme bluetooth cannot work with mac… - Apple Community

Summary: it required a firmware update for the JBL speaker, which required using their iOS app.

Hi,

Unfortunately, even though it's showing on my iMac as a bluetooth device, it's not an option in sound output.
