I cancelled my Apple Card account and I can't re-open a new account

I cancelled my Apple Card account because of a negative experience with Goldman Sachs. When trying to re-open a new account, the app is not allowing me to do so. I'm being told I need to create a new Apple ID, which I don't want. How can I fix this?

Both with my old Apple Card in my wallet and with it removed, when I select the option to add a new card and apply for an Apple Card, I get an error saying "Apple Card unavailable. Please try again later."

I chatted with several support reps to no avail. They were all very resigned, unhelpful, and were apparently giving answers without doing research into my account. Very, very, very disappointing after my negative interaction that lead me to close my card.

What you’re asking for is not an option. Apple Card accounts are forever associated with your Apple ID. That is to prevent fraud and other illegal activities. It’s a security feature. When you close an account, that account can never be reopened. You have to apply for a new account.

This requirement is not unique to Apple Card or Goldman Sachs. When you close an account, it’s closed. A credit card account is not a light switch you turn off and on. Since Apple Card offers a higher level of security than other cards, the Apple ID associated with your closed account, cannot be used to apply for a new account.

If you want to apply for a new account, please create a new Apple ID.

How to create a new Apple ID - Apple Support

In my 45 plus years of experience with credit and banks, closing an account is not a best practice. Banks view closing accounts very dimly. Just sayin’. There are hundreds if not thousands of other credit cards offering new accounts. If the support you’ve experienced has been less than satisfactory, you might be best served by applying for a different credit card. It really doesn’t make sense to me to open a new account, that you closed in the past, and then apply for a new account that while dissatisfied with their support.

I’m just trying to offer you paths forward that will best meet you expectations and credit needs.
