MIDI keyboard not showing up anymore

I have an Alesis V25 MIDI keyboard, and in the past been able to just plug and play with Logic Pro and GarageBand. However, now the computer isn't recognizing it. I've got it plugged directly into the MacBook Air using a USB > USB-C adapter as I've always done. My computer is plugged up to a monitor with power, video, and audio through one USB-C to USB-C cord.

The only thing that is different now from when I used it last is that I'm using a different USB than I used to use. It all looks exactly the same though so that really shouldn't be an issue unless there's some magic in the factory USB cord it came with. The USB sends power and MIDI controls through one port. There's no on button it just lights up when you plug it in.

When going into Audio Midi Setup it see's it in Default but it is greyed out which I understand means it knows it used to connect but now it's not connected. There are no drivers to install for this. I have the V25 Editor but that doesn't help and doesn't see it either.

My MacBook Air 2020 is running Ventura 13.4.1

Any ideas?

P.S. Please don't suggest unplugging and plugging back in or restarting the computer unless there's something else I should do before trying that, as I've already done that multiple times.

Just a little update, I’ve discovered that it is not compatible with Ventura. Which is probably one of the most frustrating things ever. Ironically though, the encryption to my password to get into the password has a bug in it or something so I have to wipe the whole computer and back up from time machine in order to fix it so I can use the password for keychain and other things.

When I wipe the computer I’m planning to open it in recovery mode and revert back to Catalina which is what it came with. And then update to Big Sur which I know it works with.

I’ll post an update here to see if that works. Honestly looking forward to getting Big Sur back ive had so many issues with the new format of settings in Ventura.

After years without any, I hope this doesn't annoy you to much but I had to chime in. It's not Apple's OS, I have a Mini M1 and always run their latest updates. It's not Big Sur or Ventura. None of them can properly run the V25 as a control surface because it doesn't recognise the v25 specifically. Mine isn't greyed out! It is not there. Yours is? No, Alesis hasn't or doesn't want to comply with whatever Apple's software requirements are to write parameters that Apple can run that would pop-up in our computers listed in Logic Pro Xs control devices setup app that has every other midi keyboard controller EVER BUILT right in there along side of Alesis Q25, and QX49 and the PhotonX25 too. You get fooled by them thinking, "Sure they'll work" but NOPE. The V25 as a plain old USB midi keyboard does work, but not correctly, and not as the control surface it actually is. All the buttons and knobs and pads are useless unless you are a programmer and can go through the ridiculous process of coding in every function possible by every knob, slider and pad. I've tried and it's a joke. I also have tried using the Alesis V25 user guide and software Editor but its unseen meaning also useless.

Until Apples hardware sees my Alesis hardware as designed... forget it. I understand It's a small inexpensive product they couldn't care any less about but hey it Works fine in Windows.

I just can't understand why they ignored this one particular model and continue ignoring pleas (Now) for what STILL NEEDS to be done for it to operate. So unlike the literally millions of other devices and working 3rd party peripherals that are part of Apples vendor system and part of consumers (moi) and retailers standard mode of happy and satisfactory daily operation. This is simply a part of the seamless mostly invisible process happening when one is a viable 3rd party external hardware dudesterama who finishes. What's missing from my ($) part of the deal can still be, and surely needs to be, finished! K!? Satisfaction is requested by the thousands of silent Mac, and Alesis V25 users out there. Of course I could be wrong but... na.

So just went through all of the reverting and updating. I am running Big Sur now and when plugging in the Alesis V25 it's still greyed out in Audio Midi Setup.

I have a video of me using it in Big Sur so it really should work. Logic Pro is re-downloading still but once that is done I'll try it there. If that doesn't work I'm going to be really annoyed. Don't understand why it would work with Big Sur 3 years ago but not now.........
