I dropped my phone into my bathtub, and it died. What should I do?

So i was basically doing something with water, but i dropped my iphone xr, so i got out as quickly as I can. My phone 30 minutes later was almost dead, so I went to charge it, but it wouldn’t charge. So my phone is now dead and I have no idea what to do. Im broke, and dont have money for a new iphone.

No no no no no no! It has been emphasized to NOT put your iPhone in rice!

Instead, what you should do, is lean your iPhone against a wall, charging port down, and have a fan blow air on it, at a low speed. This is the most effective and safest way of drying out a submerged-in-water iPhone.

Rice tends to get stuck in the ports, and there it stays, clogging the ports, and causing even more damage and heartache.

Lay this in a plate full rice for a few hours

This is the worst thing that you can do for a phone that has been under water.

Tiny rice particles that cannot even be seen get into the ports and small opening and then expand, clogging things up.

Keep the rice in the pantry. If you want to place the phone on a paper towel, do so without the rice. It would be better if you leaned the phone at about a 45 degree angle with the ports at the bottom so moisture can drain, rather than let moisture sit with the phone level.

I think the important thing to understand is that, even if you are successful in getting any liquid that has entered into your phone out, there is a significant chance (especially with bathwater) that there will be conductive residue that will remain inside the phone. Powering up the phone, at this point, can potentially cause more harm ... or worse, because it has a lithium battery, could cause a fire.

Is it really worth it for you NOT to just take it your local Apple Store to have it evaluated? Yes, chances are they will not make any repairs and only offer you the opportunity to get another phone. Of course, that's your choice, but at least, you now know what the potential harm could be should you want to continue to use this phone.

I don’t see any harm in it. If another user does, please correct me.

Be thankful if it charges at all. If a cable doesn’t work, try wireless charging.

If you notice anything unusual, have your iPhone checked out:

But consider Limnos’ advice too:

”…since this was a 6s and fast becoming outdated you may consider this to be an indicator it is time to go shopping for a newer model.”

the rice will not block the port. The objective is to get the moisture out. This crazy. My port was never affected. If that’s the case connect the charging cord but do not plug it up. This will still allow for the rice to pull out the moisture while protecting the port. It’ll still do more good than harm for mechanical reasons.

Does it matter? The point was I got a solution that actually worked. I offered it as a possible solution and because of my experience. There are many things that have been researched and some that have not. This is something that deserves the research. It has helped every time to everyone I’ve offered this advice to and some live by it. When all else failed this worked for them so either take it or leave it. It’s just another possible solution until otherwise researched and proven by those means. That’s your opinion or maybe your experience. If there’s nothing to absorb the moisture you will have a problem period. Because some part you nothing about will absorb it and it will possibly damage it. That’s what the rice prevents by absorbing the moisture so that it doesn’t affect the operation of something else.
