No Water Lock!!!
I went swimming and didn’t use the water lock, now my screen is dead, but the watch will still vibrate. What do I do?
iPhone 13 Pro Max, iOS 16

I’ll assume you have already pressed and held the digital crown knob for the unlock on current watchOS versions, or have spun the knob a dozen or so times and quickly, if an older watchOS version.
The Water Lock doesn’t change the inherent water resistance of Watch. Or lack of water resistance, where that is the case. Water Lock locks the touch screen controls (as those don’t work, or don’t work reliably, when wet), and is also used to clear the speaker cavity when eventually unlocked.
This Watch probably had an issue with its seal, and the seal failed, and Watch flooded.
That usually means a replacement Watch, as water damage isn’t typically covered by the standard warranty. If AppleCare+ was purchased, that can usually cover accidental damage with payment of a deductible.

The water lock is not just for water
i I have used it consistently to prevent inadvertent endings to workouts in fitness and is why I thought it was on the fitness regime
on a long two to three hour run not having it means that frequently I have to restart the workout when compression or elastic waterproof sleeves pressure a button
please put it back on the fitness control menu
its a real faff using the control menu

Gloves and protective and winter gear such as gloves can also hit the buttons too, and yes, damp touch display controls can or will mis-read.
For errant button touches, Ultra buttons work better here with the shroud. Wearing a non-Ultra Watch while reversing the direction of the buttons can also help when it’s.some particular article of clothing or equipment that’s triggering the buttons.
And yes, a wet touch screen is inherently difficult to get touches to register properly. Ultra again does better here., presumably with the different display crystal material used.
And the Ultra Action button can be configured for Dive (or maybe a shortcut to trigger the water lock?) which presumably might help with errant touches.
