7th Gen Ipod Classic not connecting to PC or Itunes

I bought a used iPod Classic 7th Gen and after finally getting it fully charged i cannot get it to connect to my PC or iTunes. I have read several Community post about downloading APPLE MOBILE DEVICE DRIVER, installing older or newer versions on iTunes, Updating device drivers, formatting the iPod. So when i connect the brand new iPod cable to my laptop you can hear it connect then a second later it disconnects. When i go to THIS PC, it does not show up as a drive. When i open iTunes, the device does not display. If i put the iPod in DISK MODE i can get it to show up as a drive in THIS PC but it still doesnt show up in iTunes. I have FORMATTED the iPod and restored it through iTunes. Once that is complete the iPod will show up as a drive in THIS PC and does display the iPod icon for me to click on but when i either click on the MUSIC tab or after its been connected to iTunes for a couple minutes, then it disconnects and goes back to it not showing up in THIS PC or iTunes. I have done a lot of research and my only two guesses left are that iTunes has a software problem with the Classic iPods or the hard drive for the iPod is corrupt. It still has all the functions working. Before i formatted, the iPod had music and videos from the previous owner and i was able to listen and scroll through it all. So i think its more of an iTunes problem. I have used all three USB ports and they all do the same. I have restarted my PC so many times, i have lost count. The next thing i am going to try is connecting it to my wife's laptop and see if it connects to it. Looking for any help!!! I'd hate for this thing not to work and go straight to the trash (recycle).

So after all the reading and youtubing and installing and un-installing and reinstalling, i finally figured out the problem. I BOUGHT A BRAND NEW USB/30 PIN CONNECTOR CABLE FROM APPLE. The first cable i bought was also brand new and from walmart but it was not a Apple branded cable. I read and did all the steps in downloading itunes and device drivers and restarting APPLE MOBILE in the services file and none of that worked with the first cable i bought. Ive seen plenty of apple community post and their ipod not working and if you have followed all the steps and dont have a new apple branded cable, then go get one and hopefully this works for you. The cable was going to be my last attempt at trying to get the ipod to work and if it didnt i was going to get rid of it.

This article has some relevant steps that may help even though the steps are for an iPhone or iPad: If your computer doesn't recognize your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support.


"1. Look in the Finder or iTunes

On a Mac with macOS Catalina or later, look for your device in the sidebar of any window in the Finder.*

On a Mac with an earlier version of macOS, look for your device in iTunes.

On a PC with iTunes for Windows, look for your device in iTunes.

2. Update the software on all devices

Update your iPhone or iPad

Update your Mac

Update your Windows PC

On your PC you might also need to update iTunes and update drivers.

 

3. Connect your device directly to your computer

Make sure that your device is unlocked and showing its Home Screen, then use a USB cable to connect it directly to your computer. Don't connect to a USB hub, display, or other device. 

If that doesn't help, disconnect your device and all other USB devices and accessories from your computer. Then reconnect only your device. 

 

4. Trust your computer, if asked

If you see a “Trust this Computer?” alert on your device when you plug it into your computer, tap Trust.

5. Allow the accessory to connect

When connecting your device to a Mac laptop computer with Apple silicon, your Mac might ask whether you want to allow this accessory to connect. If so, allow it to connect.

6. Restart your devices

Restart your iPhone

Restart your Mac

Restart your Windows PC

 

7. Try a different port, cable, or computer

The issue could be related to your computer, its USB port, or the USB cable connecting it to your device. If possible, try a different computer, USB port, or USB cable. Also check for any debris in the charging port on the bottom of your iPhone or iPad.

 

8. Contact us

If your computer still doesn't recognize your iPhone or iPad, contact Apple Support."

  1. The device does not show up on iTunes.
  2. The PC has the newest updates. iTunes has the most recent update. When i was able to connect the iPod one time it said it had the newest update. As far as i can tell, all Drivers are updated and are working somewhat correctly.
  3. I am only connecting the iPod to one of three USB ports (i have connected to all three). The iPod is not locked when connected and nothing else is plugged in to the USB ports.
  4. The "TRUST THIS COMPUTER" doesnt appear.
  5. Not using a MAC
  6. I have restarted all the devices several times and it doesnt help the matter.
  7. Ive tried other ports and still no connection. Ive tried another PC and still no connection. I bought a brand new USB to 30 pin cable. i doubt another cable would fix the problem because the iPod has connected one other time just briefly. There is no debris in the ports of either device.
  8. Apple support may be the only hope.
