why is it when the tell siri to set a timer there is a sound difference? timer is loud and siri is not .

here is what happens :

  1. volume is set loud
  2. siri is always quiet when setting a timer or alarm
  3. i turn down the volume late at night so the timer is not loud
  4. then the timer is still going off very loud

so basically the sound of the timer is going off as if i never turned it down , and siri is still functioning in this case as if the volume has not been raised.

why would this happen?

i even checked the volume. i have to turn up the volume for waking with an alarm the next day.

The volume buttons operate on the app that is currently open. So open the Alarm app, tap on an alarm and choose Sound. Then tap on the sound and adjust the alarm sound.

The same thing works for the timer; adjust the volume when setting the timer sound.

When the home screen is displayed the volume controls adjust the ringer volume. When on a call the same buttons adjust the call volume. And when in an app (such as a game) it adjusts the game volume.

In addition to all of this if you have Attention Aware features enabled, when you are looking at the phone (for any phone with Face ID) the volume will lower automatically.

I don't use all of the settings as I mentioned in my prior post regarding Siri. It seems probably that last night, Siri was quieter, though possibly right before another event. At the same time, the volume on the phone was very high.

To extend a bit on Lawrence's answer, you can only adjust Siri's volume while Siri is active on the screen.

what is type to siri? i have been speaking to the voice command siri, and also pushing the side button, but not using "hey siri." So I probably generally use the button when setting the voice alarms or timers.

Should that make a difference regarding audio issues? I do see that there is that option to set up siri to recognize my voice. I don't know if i ever set that up. However, It almost seems that it just recently became lower when setting a timer up by voice.

hello, i would like to see if anyone might be help me adjust settings to fix this. The alarms, i am not sure how to change any volume besides the phone volume.

Then I had moved the volume very low, but the timer went off at a high volume. I still do not understand this, and i do not recall if something had changed since i last updated the iOS.

I basically think that siri and the timers and alarms were all whatever volume that I had the phone set to.

So now, it appears that the volume settings are more complicated.

i have observed something of the awareness feature, but i am not certain about Siri. I just tested Siri with the phone being far from me, and Siri did not even make any noise. The phone just set alarms and timers (even on full volume).

Can you tell me where to set the volume on the alarm? i don't see a place for that. I don't see it in settings or sounds and haptics.

Is it the same volume as the ringer on Iphone 11?

From Lawrence's post above:

So, once you're in the clock app, the buttons will affect that app.
