Touch id unable to activate but can't turn off

My iPad air touch id sensor button had just been cracked so I understand it doesn't work but I can't download any new apps as it's says payment failed due to not being able to read my fingerprint. The passcode option doesn't not pop up. When I go into setting to turn off touch id (as I've read about doing) there is not touch id and passcodes button at all? I've watched videos and my iPad is no longer showing Touch id with a red icon!? How can I turn this off?

Hello jai_roxy,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities and for sharing these details with us. We'd like to help out. According to this resource here: Set up Touch ID on iPad - Apple Support

It mentions the following:

Turn off Touch ID
Go to Settings > Touch ID & Passcode, then turn off one or more of the options.

You mentioned that you don't see this option listed. If so, you'll want to check the following:

1.) Make sure there isn't a configuration profile installed on your device: Install or remove configuration profiles on iPad - Apple Support

2.) Confirm there is no restrictions enabled on your iPad: Use parental controls on your child's iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

If you require additional help, you might need to get your iPad physically evaluated to address the Home button. Use the following link to reach them: Get Support

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. Take care.
