One homepod shuts off when it looks like im sleeping

Hi.

So I’ve noticed the last two night that when I go to sleep with the Apple TV on the HomePod that’s closest to my head turns off and the HomePod furtherest from me projects the sound away from me if that makes sense.

This is extremely annoying as it sounds like someone is in my room.

I have no idea what or where the settings are to stop this.

I also want to know how is it monitoring that I’m not paying attention anymore. I don’t like the idea that somehow I’m being watched.

My TV is 4K 2nd Gen and HomePod 2 in stereo. All have the 16.5. HomePods just updated to 16.6 as I’m writing this.

thanks.

It’s not watching you.

Are they the same model and stereo paired together? Set up a HomePod stereo pair

Are they connected to the Apple TV as default audio?

Set up home theater audio with HomePod or HomePod mini and Apple TV 4K

  • if they’re acting up you could try restarting them

Hey.

Yeah they’re both HomePod 2’s set up as a stereo pair and as default audio connected with eArc also.

I’ve had some random issues previously that a reset fixes.

The only reason I’ve asked for help this time is how it seems like it’s more of a spatial audio adjustment than one HomePod having issues.

When I pick up my phone or use the remote the audio comes back on the HomePod that had stopped without needing any further inputs and the one that didn’t stop working the audio direction also shifts back towards the couch if that makes sense.

It happened 2 nights in a row. I haven’t got any focus setting on my phone active, so it’s not that. I have though setup Sleep tracking in my Heath app and wondering if the phone starts to register that I’m asleep so automatically adjusts the audio output.

I’m not sure about sleep tracking doing this. I don’t use that but have the same setup in my livingroom and it hasn’t done this.

To cope with it being bothersome are you able to pause whatever is playing on the ATV. It should be showing up on iPhone Lock Screen. Or you can ask Siri on any device to turn off the livingroom Apple TV. This should stop everything.

To work on resolving the issue:

Update all software; 16.6 for iPhone, Apple TV and HomePod updates were released today. See if this helps and if it persists , restart all devices.

Yeah I’ve updated all the software. Just don’t the iPhone and MacBook now.

It doesn’t feel like a software or hardware glitch though. I’ve had my fair share of those and whenever one of the HomePods acts up it needs a full reset to get back on track. This thought goes back to normal as soon as I pick up my phone and open the home app. Feels like it’s an intentional action using the spatial audio. In theory it’s a great idea, just the echo caused by the direction of the sound due to my lounge room layout makes it sound like someone’s inside my apartment.

Pausing or turning off will fix the problem but I go to sleep with the TV on in the background.

I’ll be interested to see if it keeps happening as it’s done it two nights in a row.

Thanks for your inputs though. Appreciate it.
