Exhaustive list of internationally supported cellular network providers (See link in details)

The help article linked for scanning the QR code from your cellular provider (Find wireless carriers and worldwide service providers that offer eSIM service - Apple Support) makes no mention of Google Fi. Does the community have any ideas for why this might be the case given the high customer satisfaction and flexibility it enjoys?

I don’t think such an obvious oversight can be attributed to the brand wars (Google is after all the default search engine on Safari). Come to think of it, the original list in the settings (which I assume is geo customized to show you local ) and some global providers ignores well known providers like Vodafone in favor of unknown players like RedTeaGO.

Any thoughts on this?

Google Fi is only available in some countries - and is primarily designed for Google’s own Android devices.

In countries where Google Fi service is available, you should find an appropriate App within the Apple App Store.

Excuse my ignorance, but I thought that it ran off existing network providers (Sprint, TMobile and US Cellular) in the United States … so not sure how the Android device argument applies. Sure it might be optimized for Android customization, but to not include a supported Google service in the list compared to completely unknown brands might come across as suspicious to Google loyalists … something for Apple to consider in case it does not want the publicity.

One aspect that I did just think of though is that Google Fi allows for more customization on Android devices - the UI for which Apple might not want to build into its settings panes … but that should be addressable through ToS fine print, no? Happy to reconsider my position if I’m still missing something.

As for better international availability, given that the Fi business model is to establish partnerships with existing network carriers in the market as opposed to building a new network, I’d be very surprised if it did not become ubiquitous worldwide very soon … especially given the proliferation of affordable Android devices in Asia and Africa.

And finally the overarching issue here is about optics in case Apple did not want to raise unnecessary eyebrows … yes you can download the Fi app, but think of the message that sends - Apple chose to write code that included RedTeaGO, but did not see Google worthy of the same courtesy.
