Unable to add new cards to "Contacts" on my MacBook Pro

I can enter the first name, and then after entering the last name, the card is lost and it jumps to a random card already in "Contacts."

Contacts won't let me add a new contact in contacts every time or way I try to add a new contact the compute jumps to and existing one. I tried 2 ways from within Contacts. First: with "All contacts" highlighted, clicked on the "+" at bottom right, selected "new contact", blank card came up, entered last name, then either tabbed to "first name" or just clicked on "first name", start to enter a name, BUT then the window popped to an existing contact, and I am out of the protocol for adding a contact. Second I tried by starting from the menu bar-file-newcard but Contacts again popped me out of the process for adding a contact. Macbook Pro M1, Ventura, recent update. Contacts creating a dupe when editing a contact card On our MBP 2017 running macOS Ventura 13.6.3, there are many duplicate cards in the Contacts app. Find duplicates does not find them. And, a new duplicate is created each time we edit a card. Already tried these steps that did not fix problem: 1) Booted in Safe Mode 2) In the "~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook" folder I deleted the following 3 files then rebooted: AddressBook-v22.abcddb AddressBook-v22.abcddb-shm AddressBook-v22.abcddb-wal

Contact list Problems Contact list keeps creating duplicate cards, even after I delete them. I have erased duplicates several times, only to have more appear next time I turn the computer on.

If you are using/ sync Contacts in the iCloud>Contacts try disabling this feature and compare your results.

You can sign out of AppleID/iCloud and back in to re-sync
