Using External Keyboard with Macbook 2023

I have Macbook Pro 2023 which has Touch/Power button in upper right corner. I use it to wake the Macbook. An external keyboard will not have this button. Can I still use the Touch button when the external keyboard is active or plugged in? I want to use mechanical external keyboard because I am such a sloppy typist; the native membrane keyboard is way too sensitive for me. Thanks for any help -Carl
