Head tracking keeps turning off between songs

I’ve been using my air pod 2 pro second edition for a few months now and have never had a problem, works great.

however, I just bought an AirPod max and the issue I’m having with these is that if I set head tracking to on it will work on the existing type of song, like one in stereo, but when the next song is atmos enabled it will switched to fixed, after turning Bluetooth off and on again it then works ok. When the song changes to a stereo song again the head tracking turns off again.

I have the exact same setting as my AirPods and I have never had this issue with them, just the Max.

is this an issue with the headset, or is this an existing bug?

I had posted this issue here below link. There is a bug , but looks like Apple is least bothered fixing it.

Airpods Max Head Tracking seems to be Bug… - Apple Community

I have spent lots of time in reporting the issue but it has not been fixed till the latest version 17.0.3 ( and even exists in 17.1 RC).

It worked well in ios15 versions but starting ios16 this has been an issue.

Note that it is not an issue with firmware or airpod max. It occurs with all aipods ( Max, pro v2 and others).

Note that It (Airpod max) works well (without the head tracking issue) with my ipad mini 6 which is currently running ipad os 15 version. I does not work with ipad os 16 versions and above ( I have Ipad Air that i upgraded to Ipad os 16 when it came out to test it and had confirmed the issue)

I have stopped listening in my iphone ( with airpod max ) due to this as it is running latest ios 17.0.3 currently.

Hi robertfromnewhaven,

Thanks for connecting with us here in Apple Support Communities. The first thing we'd recommend that you confirm is whether or not your AirPods have the latest firmware installed as this may help to address the issue you're facing. You can see how to check this here: About firmware updates for AirPods - Apple Support

If you're updated then please reset your AirPods Max following the steps shown here: How to reset your AirPods Max - Apple Support

Learn how to restart your AirPods Max if you're experiencing issues, or reset them to factory settings.

Noise control button, Digital Crown, and status light
To restart or reset your AirPods Max:
* First, charge them for a few minutes.
* If you're experiencing issues with your AirPods Max, you can restart them. Press and hold the noise control button and the Digital Crown until the LED flashes amber.
* You can also reset AirPods Max to factory settings. Press and hold the noise control button and the Digital Crown for 15 seconds, until the LED flashes amber, then white.
* After you reset your AirPods Max, you can connect them to your iOS or iPadOS device, or connect them to your Mac or other device.

Kind regards.
