MacOs Ventura 13.4.1 (c) hard drive Read Only

MacBook Pro Sharing & Permission for the hard drive say "You can only read" and the list of Names and Privileges show this:

System: Read & Write

Wheel: Read only

Everyone; Read only.

I can unlock "MacBook Pro Info" window with my password, but when I try to add Admin to the list, it gives me this pop-up window.

"The operation can't be completed because you don't have the necessary permission."

How do I fix this.

to run Blackmagic on your local drive, click the "gear" icon and choose "Select Target Drive...".

then, in the toolbar of the resulting window, click the "up down" arrow. (seen next to "desktop" in my example)

and choose your home folder from the list.

and then choose "open" and then you can run the test.

I added the Disk Speed Check app to Full Disk Access. No change, but I should mention that the app works fine on my new SSD external drive.

alternatively—

in your Activity Monitor.app> Disk Activity tab and click the Data button below the window

To test copy a large file to and from the external drive and watch the write and read speeds.

Thank you for the reply.

Your answer is way over my head on the explanation with the diagram and entering things in Terminal App use, but I did copy & paste:

diskutil list internal

What I was originally trying to do was figure out why when I tried to do Disk Speed Check using the BlackMagicDesign app, said I couldn't because the disk was read only.

I can log into my account and everything is working. I just wanted to do a speed check to compare speed with a new external SSD.

This is what I get after entering Terminal App:

What is zsh? And what happens if I enter `chsh -s /bin/zsh` ?

////////

The default interactive shell is now zsh.

To update your account to use zsh, please run `chsh -s /bin/zsh`.

What exactly are you trying to do..

Can you log into your account?

The System is Signed System Volume you do not have r/w access

Your user account and data is the Maintosh HD - Data Volume.

From Terminal.app you see this Drive structure, copy & paste:

diskutil list internal

on your 2017 Intel —

APFS Volume Macintosh HD - Data

Well, this is certainly seems to be the better question to ask concerning your real issue...

I can not be certain about your third party app— you can always ask the developer for support on their website, if you have issues with their product: https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/support

However —

What I can say in general— in Ventura macOS

>System Settings>Privacy & Security>Full Disk Access

try adding your third party app to full disk access folder and compare your results.

As admin/user you have all the permission you need to for this action...
