Can't preview some songs in iTunes Store

I have restarted my computer, but when I open iTunes and try to preview songs some songs do not preview and just spin with the stop sign in middle. Not all songs either, just some won't play preview and seem stuck when clicking play for the preview. Any thoughts?

Since the last iTunes update (12.12.9.4) I haven't been able to play song previews either - Windows 11 laptop.

I have: restarted the computer, reinstalled the program, disabled Apple Music, reset my router, tried from another location, tried it with a VPN, tried it without a VPN, turned off the firewall, turned on the firewall, disabled anti virus, enabled anti virus, had a friend try on their computer (didn't work for them either), had the friend sign out and sign in as me (didn't work), I signed in as a friend (didn't work), signed in on another computer (didn't work), had a friend use their OLD non-12.12.9.4 version of iTunes - and it worked.

It is an iTunes problem.

Many thanks.

Yes, I suspected it is an issue on the Apple Music side - and a push to get you to purchase Apple Music. I know of others experiencing the same problem... once were able to preview songs before purchasing and now cannot not. Just helpful to know how one can identify if you can preview a song or not before waiting for the endless "spinning cursor". Not a great end-user experience.

Unlike others - as cynical as I am at times - this does not seem to be a calculated malicious conspiracy to migrate users to the streaming service. First of all, Apple has never been shy about just switching how customers do things and how it's paid for. They have never needed to work that way. Second, they would absolutely never devise a plan that intentionally causes frustration and confusion in the HOPES that it might convert users to a paid platform, while also increasing their cost for customer service rep's to keep fielding calls/emails about it. Lastly, as someone in software development, I assure you it'd be MUCH more difficult to intentionally encode a bug like this that is seemingly random in nature and not consistent across all forms of iTunes experiences. This is clearly just a bug they need to track down and squash. Hopefully SOON.

I was thinking the same thing. Everyone jumps to a conspiracy. As someone who works for a software company, if it makes the company money, it will get fixed.

Bugs happen all the time, the more serious ones affect a larger population and suddenly its a conspiracy or money grab. There is no such thing as a bug free software program designed by humans, at least not in my experience. I think it is important to report these things and it's unfortunate that it has taken so long for them to resolve the issue. I know I haven't purchased any music experiencing the issue because I preview all music I purchase because I'm a music snob. lol

I don't buy albums just because it is an artist I like. I don't even buy albums when it would be less expensive to buy the album instead of all the songs I like from the album. That doesn't happen often but it does happen.

My point here is that if I can't preview a song, then I don't buy the song. I find it highly unlikely that they would purposely engineer a bug to disable the preview button only on certain selections of songs to attempt to herd people to their streaming service. That makes no sense at all. Its Apple, if they don't want it, then they just stop doing it. I've not known them to be coy about their decisions.

THey just designed an iPhone frame out of titanium. Why? Because they wanted to. It is way more difficult to work with than aluminium.

Its a bug, plain and simple.

Not sure how it "doesn't pass" - may not be ideal, but the point of previewing is to hear the music before purchasing. The above Apple Music/Browse link does that. And there are plenty of other places to preview & purchase music tracks besides iTunes - so pounding salt is not the only other option. I agree that it's a fixable problem and they really just want people to give up on downloading and stream instead as if it's somehow a one-size-fits-all solution. But it's not. Streaming satisfies many needs for music consumption, but not many of ours.

That's the point - they want people to give up on the iTunes store user experience. They're playing dumb when they tell you they'll try to figure it out or can't figure it out. They don't mind selling the songs, but would rather have you stream them. This is a way that they think makes the choice obvious to you. As if there's no reason to prefer downloading to streaming, no matter who you are. It's easier for them to forecast revenue and maybe a better margin for them from a fixed monthly subscription price for all music consumers. It just seems like too simple of a glitch not to be able to figure out.
