My understanding is that I sign in with "Appleid.Applle.com"but I've forgotten that part. It does not matter cause after I sign out, the sign in asks me for my MAC password ... I enter it and then I am asked for Apple ID password -- the line autofills (I think?) and I am returned to this Community page -- where I began!

Well, you cannot post here without a valid Apple ID. Have you tried looking in your Keychain on the Mac?
