While driving my phone starts to dim and then goes black screen while using Apple Maps and i can’t see the directions until I tap the screen again. I don’t remember having to do this before in the past.

Install the Latest-Compatible Update:
I see you have iOS14 installed. So, try installing an update, seeing if any bugs make this go away...
Update Using a Computer:

I also have a Maps lock screen issue but different than this one. Running iOS 17.3. Whenever I use another navigation app like Waze or Google maps, while actively navigating, the screen never goes dark and never blacks out, and the screen never locks. However, when I use Apple Maps to actively navigate, and I go to touch the phone or try to do something after a few minutes, the map is still showing directions to navigate, but the screen is now locked. The phone starts looking for my face to verify my identity so I can unlock the phone before I can do anything else. This is such a massive headache and unsafe while driving. I have to reach out for the phone from the mount and turn it towards my face and take my eyes off the road, or take my face off the road and type in the passcode. Apple Maps on an Apple phone should be easier, not harder. Is there a way to fix this?
