Troubleshooting a Lost iPhone

Find My can only be enabled directly on the iPhone. It cannot be enabled elsewhere. So, is it enabled on the iPhone? IF not, you'd have to do so the olde fashioned way: Backtrack your location.

So, what to Try:

  • Dial it: See if it is heard ringing

  • Ask Local Authorities: See if it has be hanged over.

  • Text It: Ask whomever has come across it, to contact you.

  • Ask Someone: See if someone you know (i.e. Friend, or Family Member) if that came across it.

  • Backtrack your Locations: If you are at a coffee shop, or a library, stop by and see if it was safely placed aside.

The phone may be gone for good. You may be lucky enough to get a location update or not – it all depends upon whether the phone has power and connectivity to report its location.

However, if you had Find My turned on, marked the phone as Lost, and are careful not to remove the phone from your device list, you can at least make its theft unprofitable for the thieves/fences or their customers.

If you get messages from "Apple" saying that they have found your phone, do not respond. Those messages are from criminals who realize they have a "brick" and want to trick you into divulging your Apple ID and password or into removing the phone from your device list so they can make the phone work (for their benefit, not yours).

Likewise if you get messages from anyone else who claims to have found the phone, but wants to know details of how to unlock it; or wants you to remove it from your device list. Don't fall for such scams.
