Altered filetype when transferring photos & videos

Whenever i try to import media files to my pc, file extension becomes slightly different.

Instead of .MOV, it becomes something like .MOVÂ or .MOV我

Instead of .HEIC, something like .HEIĆ or .HEIC|\ appears

It's like ...some sort of encryption?

I can delete the added character and the photo opens just fine if I do, but I take hundreds of photos every week. It's obviously time consuming to correct each individual image.

How do I fix this?

iPhone 13 mini, iOS 17

FWIW although I do not use iCloud Photos on the Mac or much Windows either, I quickly tried this in Windows 10 with VMware VM. On the Mac I always use Image Capture and do not import straight to Phtotos.app.

Windows File Explorer can copy images as expected from an iPhone and then they can be imported to Windows iCloud Photos (with the default settings the file suffix ".jpg" is not displayed at the end).

But when importing straight to Windows iCloud Photos (from the same iPhone > Internal Storage > DCIM) the imported filename seems to always have [1] added to the end which Photos displays as %5B1%5D (when exporting it is IMG_1736[1].JPG). I can not comment if this behavior has changed.
