Force restart on iPhone and malware

My son plugged his iPhone XS into a friends computer that had malware. Apparently it was to charge, but I’m not sure. After he started the newest system update. The phone froze during the update with the apple logo and the progress bar. I did a force restart (volume up, down, power) and it restarted and went to the plug into a computer screen to restore.

Could the malware from the friends computer transfer to the iPhone and then to my computer?

The malware did not likely transfer to your sons iPhone. iPhone, unless jailbroken, is impervious to virus. But his phone clearly needs to be restored.
