Windows 10 transfer - will I keep the data on the Windows device?

Hi, I've just set up a new Mac which is a second computer to use for graphics related work alongside my windows 10 laptop. I want to transfer my photos and a few more files to here, but will I keep them on my Windows 10 device once the transfer is complete? Will I be able to select certain folders to import or do I need to import my entire device's material? Another concern is that, I'm not entirely bothered by all of my files being here, but it accumulates to over 1TB of storage, and of course, that's not the same amount I have on here. Can anyone help??? Thanks!!!!
