Photos disappeared, videos corrupted

I recently took photos and videos on my iPhone 14. The pictures have completely disappeared and the videos have turned into a sold grey box in my camera roll (videos can be sent as audio file). When creating an IG post, and my ‘recent’ pictures show up, the photos and videos show up solid black. I can differentiate videos from photos by seeing how long the video is at the bottom left of the file. How can I restore these files?


I’ve checked all albums in my camera roll, iCloud Photos is turned on, iOS is updated

As there is no setting or feature that should produce the results you describe, isolating or eliminating some basics would be the first order of business. Things to check or try include:


1) Restart your device.

2) Verify you have sufficient storage available in Settings > General > About.

3) Confirm you are on the latest version of iOS, at present time that is 16.6 per About iOS 16 Updates and if not use the info in Update your iPhone or iPad to install that software.

4) As you indicate iCloud Photos is enabled, check to see if the photos or videos are accessible at the iCloud site. You may also need to confirm you have not exceeded your iCloud storage while there.

5) Turn off Low Power Mode if in use, restart and test again.


Additional information would also be necessary to offer further suggestions or advice. Details such as are all photos and videos impacted or only specific ones, were these captured with the built-in Camera app or a third-party service, and if new photos and videos subject to the same outcome may help isolate for possible next steps.

As the videos show up with grey boxes have you tried accessing iCloud on a different network? If the issue continues, as you mentioned you're able to send the videos as audio files, have you tried editing to see if the full video returns? Thank you! Steps 1-5 have been complete and none of those seem to be the problem. The iCloud site is identical to my camera roll. Only the vids show up, but in grey blocks. Unfortunately, still have issues.


The photos and videos that were taken on Saturday between 1:30-9pm seem to be corrupted. However, I was able to take pictures that same morning, just fine. It wasn’t until the next day I noticed. The next day, Sunday I was taking pics and vids just fine, no issues. Just missing content from that time frame on Saturday. All content was captured on my iPhone’s camera, and from the locked screen. Content was definitely captured as it showed in the bottom left corner of the phone immediately after taken.
