Ineligible photo gallery

In an attempt to back up my photographs to hard drive, the photo gallery (or maybe a copy of it) has ended up on the desktop. Is the solution in correcting this to move it back into the pictures file, or is it more complex than this. ?

Check the Pictures folder to see if you Photos library in in there. If it isn't then drag the library from the Desktop back into the Pictures folder.


If you do have the Photos library in your Pictures folder open it to confirm it's the corrupt library and then delete the library from the Desktop.


How is the external hard drive formatted? It should be either APFS or OS X Extended (journaled) for it to safely store the library.
