Upgrading iMac from Catalina to Monterey the installation froze and will not complete after several attempts.

Hello all:

When upgrading from Catalina to Monterey the installation froze and will not complete after several attempts. I am unable to create a bootable drive because I get an error, "com.apple.buildinfo.preflight.error error 10".

My internet connection is strong, but I keep getting the No IAL update found message in the installer log. I am also unable to load into Safe Mode. I'm using an iMac 2020 intel.

All help is appreciated. Thanks.

As we have not gotten an answer to our questions, let me pose some other questions.

Is the external drive one with its own power source, or are you using the computer as a power source?

Is there a USB hub or Docking station with its own power source?

If neither drive nor docking station has its own power source, many external drives fail to communicate 100% of the time with computers using the computer alone as a power source. Add some form of external power to ensure connectivity throughout the process.

Hi. I have a similar problem.

I have an M1 MBA for which the user somehow managed to forget the admin password and the FileVault.

It has resulted in having to erase the computer.

when erasing it we were able to show that we own it by providing some iCloud details (phone number or email).

So have reset to factory, gone into disk utility and erased the APFS file system and replaced with same.

So now in recovery mode and trying to reinstall macOS Ventura again/

The installation always fails with "An error occurred whilst preparing the installation. Please try again"

The installer log says

"No IAL update found

OISClient interrupted"

I am not installing from external drive

The disk is empty (reformatted)

plugged into power all the time.

Any suggestions please - very frustrating.
