Passcode screen pops up unexpectedly. Can be bypassed

iPad series 9. “Enter your passcode pop-up screen. I can bypass it, at times, by tapping off/ on button on top. Screen goes away without entering code. Or I shut down iPad by holding top button, I then hold top button to restart. Apple appears then I enter passcode as required. I want to avoid entering passcode when not required if iPad is perhaps compromised.

Hello saysa,

Thank you for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

Are you using the Touch ID? If so, they may allow you to bypass the passcode at certain times:

Where is the Touch ID sensor?

The Touch ID sensor is either in the Home button or—on iPad Air (4th generation) and later and iPad mini (6th generation)—the top button. When you follow the steps below, your device's onscreen instructions will tell you which button to use. If you're not sure, learn which button is which on your iPad.

Additional details can be found here: Use Touch ID on iPhone and iPad

If that is not the case can you provide a few more details? Which iPadOS version do you currently have installed? Is anyone else able to bypass your passcode? Also, when did you first notice this?

Cheers!
