Apple Watch connected to WiFi but it has no internet connection

My problem is the following:

  • I switch off the WiFi, Cellular and Bluetooth on my Iphone
  • My Apple Watch connected to WiFi
  • My Apple Watch acts like it is not connect to WiFi thus Siri doesn't work, Weather is not updating..etc

The only way my Apple Watch would work (access internet) if the watch is not connected to the iphone at all which does not happen if I only switch off WiFi, Cellular and Bluetooth as explained but I have to switch the iphone off completely.

In that case only the Apple Watch could really use the WiFi on it's own. Otherwise I think the Apple Watch since it is still somehow connected to the iphone it tries to use the Internet connection via iphone and fails.

Sorry for making it long, can you help me figure out how to allow the Apple Watch to use its WiFi connection regardless of the iphone if it is in range or not and connected to the internet itself or not.

Thank you very much.

Look in the Settings app on your iPhone, pick Bluetooth and see which devices appear to be connected and active. I think you will find your Apple Watch shows as Connected. Go to the Bluetooth On/Off slider at the top of the page and slide it so it is no longer green.

Explanation: The preferred routing for your Apple Watch is by Bluetooth via your iPhone. The iPhone has a 2-level shutdown on Bluetooth to allow services like your Apple Watch or music to your AirPods to keep working, and you have not shut it down fully. You will probably see the same issue with Airplane mode on your iPhone, you can select Airplane but then (your choice) enable one or more of the individual services while staying in AirPlane mode.
