Copy and paste table from Mac Pages?

This question assumes the Mac OS. I am not dealing with iOS.

I want to copy a table in Pages and paste it into Messages.

I have the two applications open side by side on my desktop of my MacBook Air.

I tried dragging the table from Pages to the window in Messages. The table disappeared between the applications.

I selected the table in Pages, copied it, and pasted it into Messages. But in doing so I lost all the formatting of the table. The table loses its utility without the formatting.

I opened the Thumbnail of the Pages page with the table. Dragging the thumbnail from Pages to Messages did not work--the table disappeared along the way.

Copy-and-paste the thumbnail did not work. I do not know if the copying did anything, but nothing appeared when I pasted into Messages.

How do I copy a table from Pages to Messages?

You can only share the entire Pages document via Messages, not any object (e.g. table) from within the Pages document, or by any drag and drop of content. That link to the Pages User Guide for Mac only indicates that you can send an entire document, not a single document object such as a table or chart.

Unless the recipient of that Message has a version of Pages that can open that attached document on their Apple product, you should send a Word or PDF document exported from Pages.

Pages v11.1 on Big Sur has a Share menu where you can select Send a Copy and choose Messages. That will open a new Messages window with the Pages document attached. There is a Send a Copy tool on the View menu : Customize Toolbar… panel that you can drag/drop to the Pages toolbar for the same purpose (as Picas has mentioned), but on this older version of Pages, there is no File menu > Share menu.

If you want to share just a Pages table with someone, they you will need to screen capture an image of that table, and then from the Finder, right-click on that screenshot image and choose Share : Messages.
