reliable wake via iPad Pro over USB-C monitors (eg. Dell S2722QC)
hi! I purchased a USB-C monitor (Dell S2722QC) in Dec 2022 and noticed iPadOS (don’t recall the exact version at the time) wouldn’t let the monitor sleep and the monitor would stay on all night. Thankfully, iPadOS appears to have been enhanced (as of 16.5.1) and now sleeps its USB-C output so the monitor detects this and goes to sleep 👍🏼
I’m wondering if anyone else out there encounters an issue where you wake up the iPadPro (I have a 12.9” 2018 256GB cellular model) and the monitor doesn’t wake up (it just continues sleeping)?
The workaround I’ve discovered is to toggle the power switch off and then back on (unplugging and replugging the USB-C cable also works but is more effort and unnecessary wear on the connector).
The large majority of the time the monitor wakes up (just like it did this evening to type this post) so I can’t reliably reproduce the issue yet. The workaround is acceptable for now.
Curious if anyone knows exactly what the issue is (is it monitor or iPadOS related?) and knows how to prevent it from happening? I’m banking it’s iPadOS-related given a iPadOS update was able to change the behavior to allow the monitor to go to sleep.
