There was an iOS 15 security release (iOS 15.7.9) the other day. If you have an iPhone 6s, you can upgrade to it.

Buy a newer, more modern iPhone if you want iOS 16. Your phone is too old and too underpowered to run anything higher than iOS 15.7.8.

Nope. It can't. It won't. It NEVER will. The reason you're now on 15.8, is you got a security update. Not an iOS update. iOS 16 will NEVER be coming to iPhone 7 or older devices.

It seems pretty safe to say that Apple will never release iOS 16 for the iPhone 6s. If you need or want to run a version of iOS higher than iOS 15.*, you will need to get a newer iPhone.
You don’t update the iPhone 6s to iOS 16.
To run a version of iOS higher than the latest version of iOS 15, you update the hardware by purchasing a compatible, newer iPhone.
