need new battery?
MacBook Pro late 2011. I fully charge it, put it away, and 12 hours later I'm at 82% charge. Is this a dying battery?
By the way, my battery status reads as "normal".

Given it's 12 years old, and batteries are considered consumables, I'd say a qualified yes. It can stay at 82% for a long time and if you can tolerate the shorter run time I'd suggest you wait for now. Apple recommends you replace it at 80% remaining capacity. It's close, but not there quite yet. It's your call.
